Carb replacement

I’ve been thinking a lot about the worn out Quadrajet sitting on the top of my Pontiac’s 305 V8. The fuel mixture is horrible at the moment and the carb is in pretty rough shape. My original thoughts were to rebuild the carb as I haven’t done any carb work since high school and I though it might be kind of fun. I talked to a lot of folks online who claimed that they would never rebuild another carb now that they’ve found how great remanufactured carbs from National Carburetor are. When it comes right down to it, I don’t have some of the items that would be required to rebuild my carburetor and by the time I acquired those items along with the rebuild kit, the replacement carburetor would actually be more cost effective. I’m going to order the new carburetor shortly from Napa as they handle National Carburetor parts. In the meantime, I’ve been reading up on Quadrajets and watching some cool video’s on Q-Jet rebuilds.

Musclecar on Spike TV’s Powerblock did an episode on Quadrajet rebuilding recently that was pretty cool. While I still think it makes more sense to replace the carb in my case, this sure has me thinking that it might be fun to rebuild it instead.
