Having a little trouble waiting

Only 30 more days until FanExpo Canada releases the first list of guests scheduled for the Science Fiction portion of the Expo. I can’t wait to see who’s coming!

I’m not afraid to say that I’m a huge fan of Firefly! From day one when the series started, I was glued to the TV every week and just kept coming back. That’s generally something that I don’t do. TV doesn’t usually hold much interest for me but Firefly was a breath of fresh air. When the show was canceled I was genuinely annoyed. I anxiously awaited the release of Serenity and was in the theatre on opening night with my Joss t-shirt on. As you can imagine, I made sure to read and re-read the Serenity comic books that led up to the release of the movie just to ensure that I had absorbed everything that I could. I wouldn’t call myself a fanatic, but I’m a pretty big fan of the show and it’s characters.

Once the DVD set of Firefly came out I made it my mission to get my set autographed by the whole cast. It seems unlikely that I’ll get them all, especially given the 3.5 hour line to see Summer Glau last year, but I’m going to give it a try. I’m a fan, but I’m not a fan with sufficiently strong feet to stand in line for hours anymore. I’m still excited to see who comes.

I managed to get Adam Baldwin in 2005, what a great guy. It was pretty funny to see how much bigger he was than the surprisingly diminutive Kevin Sorbo at the next table.

In 2006 I made a point to line up for Morena Baccarin and was thrilled to see Christina Hendricks sitting in on her session when I got to the table.

Unfortunately, apart from Summer Glau last year, none of the Firefly cast have returned to Fan Expo since 2006. Ron Glass and Jewel Staite have both been at the Polaris Sci-Fi show in the past, but I have some issues with the entry fees for the Polaris shows and have passed on them. FanExpo is a brilliant blend of Science Fiction, Gaming, Anime, Comics, and Horror. It’s 5 expos in one and not to be missed. I’m on pins and needles waiting to see the guest list for 2011.

  1. Nice! I’m also a HUGE fan of Firefly. I didn’t catch it when it was on tv, but a friend got me hooked a couple of years later. I own both the series and movie on DVD. 🙂 Yes, it was a breath of fresh air. I had no idea Adam Baldwin was that big, but I know how tall you are, and with him standing next to you in that picture above… wow.

I’ve never been to FanExpo but my boyfriend and I sometimes talk about it. 🙂
